Now Offering Portrait Photography Training! -- Kim Binfield Photography -- San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma

I am very, very pleased to announce that I am now offering in-person instruction in portrait photography. I have been wanting to do this for over a year so I am thrilled to now be teaching it!

I've prepared a set of concise handouts that we go over during our one-on-one course. Along the way we will walk around to find the best light. We will also be picking up your camera throughout the class as we adjust your camera settings and practice the techniques covered in the handouts.

What you will learn:

• how to take a portrait step-by-step in sunshine, shade and indoors
• where to find the best light and place your subject
• a bit about aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how they work together
• how to navigate and adjust your camera's settings, dials and menus
• shooting in aperture priority mode
• bonus: basics on how to shoot landscape and action photos
• recommended lenses and gear for portraits

Along with the handouts, you will go home with a sheet of homework to practice your new skills right away. I am excited to see the portraits you will be able to take after our class and am happy to critique and/or answer questions you may have as you are practicing.

The 1:1 Portrait Photography class is being offered at an introductory price of $125. The class length is approximately one hour. Additional time, topics and live photography sessions are available as add-ons. The class is intended for beginning SLR users who would like to take better portraits for personal use. I shoot Canon but can also teach Nikon.

A little morning play and park time ...

i love hand holding photos!! such a sweet connection and those tiny hands get big before we know it ... my youngest is almost six and I can still feel a teeny bit of baby hands when holding her hand but not for much longer I sadly know. i saw a quote recently "give them roots and wings" i like that very much.

Here are my favorites from this session ... In addition the hand holding, I love his aspiring look and beautiful, deep blue eyes in the color image.

Maternity Photo Session -- Kim Binfield Photograhy -- San Francisco and Marin Maternity Photographer

A little pre-Mothers Day post this morning of a recent maternity session. This mom is a friend of mine from high school that I was so happy to connect with and meet up in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park for her maternity photos. She is a scientist and will also be a very special mom to one lucky little girl who was born just over a week ago now. Enjoy those baby cuddles, the waiting is over!

Lots of fun at this late afternoon session with these two sisters for holiday photos last year. I have photographed this family through the years before little sister came on the scene. It's wonderful watching families grow and getting to create memories for them. These two sisters are about three years apart and little sister enjoyed passing out pretend treats to her big sister and being in charge!

1 year old and super adorable. Here are my favorite images from this afternoon family photo session last year. Look for new posts over the coming weeks... I'll be sharing session favorites from 2013 as we start into 2014!

Hoping 2014 is off to a good start for everyone! Time to refresh and settle in after the holidays. I'm enjoying the time to get a bit more organized on the home and work front and to also be with my girls as they take on gymnastics, ballet, more and more reading and coming up with cute and funny things to make me smile (most of the time of course!)  ~ Kim

Holiday cards, thanks and wishes -- Kim Binfield Photography

A note tonight to thank my lovely clients and everyone who supports me in getting to be creative and make memories for families. I have enjoyed seeing all of the holiday cards this year and my girls have enjoyed taking turns opening them - mostly without fighting ;)  The ones from my clients are especially heartwarming and fun to be a part of and to you again I say Thank You!!

Here's part of our card for this year. I had it printed at my lab on my favorite pearl paper and it turned out even dreamier than I'd hoped. A thank you to my girls also for putting up with having a photographer for a Mom.

As the year closes out, I wish everyone a very happy holiday. Cuddle up with those little ones!
